The Immigration Research Initiative produces some of the most rigorous, independent analysis on immigration policy in the country, data that moves legislation, shapes debate, and gives advocates the evidence they need to make their case. When they came to us, the challenge wasn’t the quality of their work. It was making sure their website was worthy of it. We partnered with IRI to redesign their digital presence from the ground up: sharpening how their research gets discovered, strengthening the visual identity of the organization, and building tools that would give their small team the power to keep pace with their big ambitions.

We reimagined the IRI website with a clear goal: make it as easy as possible for policymakers, advocates, journalists, and researchers to find what they need and understand why it matters. The redesign brings greater clarity and hierarchy to the site’s content, giving every section, from the Research Hub to Immigration Essentials, a more intentional structure that guides visitors naturally through IRI’s work and point of view. We also helped develop new content areas, including IRI Insights, giving the team a dedicated space to share what they’re seeing, reading, hearing, and supporting in their field.
Through an in-depth discovery process with key stakeholders, one thing became unmistakably clear: IRI’s reports are the heart of what they do, and finding them shouldn’t be hard. The site had basic search functionality, but it wasn’t prominent, it wasn’t intuitive, and it wasn’t working hard enough for the people who needed it most. We also found that despite the strength and consistency of IRI’s voice in their research, the visual identity of the organization lacked the same distinctiveness, leaving the site feeling generic in a space where credibility and recognition matter enormously.
We rebuilt the search and filtering experience from the ground up, making it one of the most prominent features on the site. Users can now find reports quickly and easily by topic, geography, or keyword, with a system designed to get out of the way and just work. Beyond the Research Hub, the overall look and feel of the site is dramatically more elevated and professional, and new content areas like IRI Insights position the organization not just as a source of data but as a genuine thought leader in the immigration policy space. Woven throughout it all is a consistent, distinctive visual identity, driven by the custom AI image tool we built, that makes IRI’s brand feel as credible as the research behind it.
One of the most distinctive things we built for IRI was a custom AI image generation tool, designed from scratch specifically for their team. Knowing that IRI operates with limited design resources and a small staff with a lot on their plates, we created a tool that lets them generate original, highly designed, on-brand imagery entirely on their own, no design background required, no lengthy production process. The images it produces carry a visual style that’s uniquely IRI’s: a consistent aesthetic that brings warmth, texture, and identity to their reports and across the site. It’s the kind of visual presence that used to require a designer every single time. Now their team can do it themselves, in minutes.
