Rural Listening Project

We partnered with the Rural Listening Project to create a compelling brand and digital presence for an initiative launched during the nation’s 250th anniversary. As rural communities across nine states navigate rapid political, economic, and technological change, this project captures how they view the country’s direction, the resilience of its institutions, and what needs to change.

The team at HD Made brought a wealth of patience, talent, and vision to the table, culminating in a new logo and dynamic new website that exceeded all expectations.

Branding

Logo

The goals of the logo redesign were to create something that stands out in a field of nonprofits, signal that the project amplifies American voices, and highlight that we are at an important turning point.

We developed a color palette that evokes the spirit of Americana and the character of rural America. Drawing inspiration from weathered textures and national symbolism, the palette balances American colors with classic inspired tones that speak to America’s 250th anniversary.

Website Redesign

Our final task was to redesign the website for The Rural Listening Project, ensuring it could clearly communicate their key findings while allowing users to filter through a hub of over 3,000 unique responses of rural voters.

The Challenge

The original website was essentially a large form that didn’t show any findings. The client wanted our help to create a strong narrative that reflected their branding along with boiling down the findings in easy to navigate pages.

The Transformation

In the design, we made the navigation simple and intuitive for users to find key findings quickly. Since the client wanted to avoid using photographic images, we utilized animations, bold text, color and texture to tell the story. The new design prominently features rural residents stories, showcasing their unique voice and making it easy for users to download the full report.

A Growing Hub for Rural Voices

Working with 1,086 long survey answers and 2,254 poll questions can be overwhelming for users to digest. To solve for this, we created a filterable hub of key quotes from rural voters allowing for users to easily see how rural Americans feel about, AI, authoritarianism, term limits, and much more.
